Today: Continue in Unit 5

Session 1: Answer p. 51, F #5. Everybody in your group should choose a different historical site. When you come back, I will ask you:

What is the historical site?

Where is it?

When was it made?

Session 2: Listen to p. 52, Listening exercise and answer 'Listen for Main Ideas.'


Session 3: Read p. 54, Vocabulary Activities, Do A and B. Do p. 55, C and D.



Wednesday, July 29th, Sogo Eigo 2, 9:00-10:30 and 10:40-12:10 (Class #12)

Today: Start Unit 5 (Last unit for this semester)

Session 1: Read pp 81-83. Answer p. 82, #4 (everybody should name a different activity); Read p. 84 A; Do pp 84/85 B. The picture below is to help you with #3.


Session 2: Do p. 85 C (the answers depend on how the word is used on p. 84); Do D #4. (Write your answer like this: 'I have a strong connection with ... because ....' Everybody's answers should be different.)

Session 3: Read p. 88, Grammar for speaking; Do A (in your group) and choose 3 from B to write for yourself. You must always use 'to + Vb' in your sentences, which is called the 'infinitive' in English. 


Monday, July 27th, Eigo Kiso 1, 9:00-10:30 and 10:40-12:10 (Class #12)

Today: Continue in Unit 3, Example Paragraphs

Please work as a group to make your answers. I mean, all your answers in your group should be the same. 

Session 1: Read p. 61, Ex. 1, 'My Brother's Game.' Do Ex. 2. A. 

Session 2: Read p. 62, Rhetorical Focus. Do p. 63 Ex. 3. (There is one question, #3,c. that is a bit unclear.) 

Session 3: Do p. 64, Ex. 4. 


Wednesday, July 22nd, Sogo Eigo 2, 9:00-10:30 and 10:40-12:10 (Class #11)

Today: Finish Unit 4 and make a conversation for points.

Session 1: Look at p. 74, B (the map); Read the sentences 1-7. Do p. 75, C. 

Session 2: Make a conversation based on p. 79, (at the top) 1 AND/OR 2 AND/OR 3. (I mean that you can choose just one topic, or more than one topic and mix them up. It is completely up to you. The topics are very similar, and most students mix up the topics into their conversation. I just want you to make a conversation (2 people -> 1 minute, 3 people -> 90 seconds) so that I can listen to your ideas and your English.)


Monday, July 20th, Eigo Kiso 1, 9:00-10:30 and 10:40-12:10 (Class #11)

Today: Unit 3, Example Paragraphs

Session 1: Read p. 55, Ex. 2 'New Wonders in the Sky' (This is two paragraphs). Do Ex. 3. (#2 is not a good question. Delete 'People'and replace this with 'Scholars.'


Do p. 56, Ex. 4 #2. Write one answer as a group. 

Session 2: Look at the vocabulary on p. 58, Ex. 3, A. Do you know the meaning of all these adjectives? Check with everybody in your group. You don't have to do B. Just check the vocabulary in A. Read p 59, Rhetorical Focus. Read Ex. 4, 'A Great Man' and answer the question: Why does the writer call Nelson Mandela a 'great man'? Do p. 60, Ex. 5 A. .


Friday, July 17th, Sogo Eigo 1, 9:00-10:30 and 10:40-12:10 (Class #12)

Students, please remember that there is no class next week. It is a national holiday (Sports Day), and the next class after that (#13) is on July 31st. 

You have to write a paragraph after this class. This is your last paragraph for this semester. The deadline is July 25th. 

Today: Finish Unit 3

Session 1: Read p. 55, Language For Writing; Do A (There is only one answer, a. or b.); Do p. 56, B and C.

Session 2: Read p. 56, Writing Skill; Do p. 57, D (I do not like #1; I think there are two possible answers) and E. 

Session 3: Do p. 59, Revising Practice; Do p. 60, Editing Practice.


Write a paragraph and send it to me at Write it in the body of the paragraph, not an attachment. The topic is: Travel After Covid-19: How do you think we will travel in the future? Will we go back to the way that we used to travel, or will it change? If you think it will change, how will it change? Your title can be 'Travel After Covid-19.' Or you can make your own title, but your title must not be a sentence, and please use capital letters properly. Also, DO NOT cut up the lines if you use 'First,' 'Second,' etc. It must be one block of writing. You'll lose many points if you cut up your paragraph. This is your last paragraph for this semester, so I expect you to make a real effort with this one.

Please remember that that there is no class next Thursday because it's a national holiday. Class #13 is on July 30th.

Today: We will start Unit 5, which is the last unit for this semester. Please work on your answers as a group.

Session 1: Check p. 49 for new vocabulary. Do p. 50, A, B and C.

Session 2: Read p. 51, Corpus (at the top); Do D (do all, you can use 'expanding' OR 'contracting,' but always use 'because.'

Session 3: Do p. 51, E (everybody in your group chooses one each, and always use 'task' and 'because.')

Today: Continue in Unit 4. 

Session 1: Do p. 65, E; Do F #4 (Make a list of natural resources that people need to manage well.) Come back to the main session. 

Session 2: Read p. 68, Grammar For Speaking. Do A (P = passive; A = active, so not passive) Fill in the blanks in your group. Be careful! Come back to the main session.

Do p. 73, E; Answer this question: Do you want to try Dam-release rafting? Why? Why not? (Try to have longer answers, not just It looks fun, or It looks dangerous. Those answers aren't interesting.)

Session 1: Check p. 48, Ex. 1. (You should have finished last week, but please check your answers with your group and finish if you haven't finished.) 

At the bottom of p. 49, (in the blank space) please write this:

opinion -> size -> physical quality -> shape -> age -> colour -> origin -> material -> type -> purpose + NOUN

a good, big, heavy, square, old, blue, French, wooden, garden, work table. (<- This is just for example.)

Are these correct?

At the restaurant, the customer criticized that the food was cold. <- Is this good English? If you think it is bad English, please change it, but you must keep the word 'criticized.'
