Students, here is your 4th assignment. As usual, I'm available during the tutorial time time on Friday. Email me if you want a Zoom meeting. Other important points: this assignment is worth 20 points and you can take 2 weeks to do it. I've written that and other important information in the assignment paper you can download:
First breakout session: Choose a leader, somebody who hasn't done it before. Then, please go back and review pages 12/13, and do page 14, B and C. (You should actually read all of page 13 one more time so you get the correct answers on p. 14. Then, do page 15, A. (Choose F or R, but #2 isn't so clear.) Come back to the main session and leader tells me your answers.
Second breakout session. Please read p. 15 'Language for Writing.' Then do p, 16, C. and E, and for E you should write long sentences, not just very short sentences. Tell me some interesting information. If your sentences are too short, I'll make you do it again. Read p, 17 'Writing Skill' and do F and G. Come back to the main session and leader tells me your answers.
Students, this morning we will do our first listening from the textbook.
In your first breakout group, first choose a leader (somebody who has never done it before) and go back to page 4. Answer the 3 questions at the top of the page (Before You Listen). Then listen to this:
It is a professor's lecture about how people react physically to emotions. Answer the three questions in the 'Listen for Main Ideas' part (You just have to choose A, B, or C) and then go and fill in the 7 blank spaces on page 5. You can listen to the lecture as many times as you want, but please don't take too long. Then everyone comes back and leader tells me your answers.
Second breakout session, go back into your room and look at page 12 Discussion Questions. Choose 1 of the 3 and make a short conversation in your group. Practice it, and then come back and let me listen to it. (It should be 30 seconds for every member of your group.)
Students, today is class #3, and we will continue to work in the textbook. There are 2 breakout sessions today.
First breakout session. Please choose a leader, somebody who has not done it before. Go to page 12, Do B. Then go to page 14 and read A, and do B. Finally, Read C on page 15, and do the 4 questions. Everyone comes back and leader tells me your answers.
Second breakout group. First listening, page 16! Listen to this either in your group or individually:
And answer the questions on page 16, C. (THIS MAY BE DIFFICULT! I DON'T KNOW, SO TRY BUT IF IT'S TOO DIFFICULT, LEAVE IT!) then, finally, do D on page 17. Look at the graph and answer the questions 1-7) Then come back and leader tells me your answers.
Students, today's topic is allergies. We will talk about allergies, but you don't have to talk about your personal information if you don't want to.
We will go into breakout rooms 3 times.
First breakout room. Choose a leader. It must be somebody different from last week. Leader, ask your group members, 'Do you have any allergies?' (Yes -> What?) Try to give full answers. Try to use the 'How often? question from page 8. Then, listen to this conversation on p. 16 of your textbook between Raymond and Elena and answer p. 16 c. (You can listen a few times. The answers at in the second half of the conversation.)
Then come back and leader tells me your answers.
Second breakout room. Do page 17, D. Come back and Leader tells me your answers.
Third breakout room. Your group has many members. Make pairs (and a group of 3 if necessary) and practice conversation A on page 18 until you can say it fluently. Then come back and let me listen to your conversations.
Students, there are two breakout sessions today.
First breakout session. Choose today's leader. It must be somebody who hasn't been leader before. Read p. 8 Rhetorical Focus; Do p. 9 Exercise 6. Read p. 10 Rhetorical Focus; Do page 10 Ex. 7 and p. 11 Ex. 8. Come back to the main session and leader please tell me your group's answers.
Second breakout session. Read all of page 12. Read The Pink Sheep on p. 13 and Do Ex. 2, 1, 2, and 3. (Don't do 4) Do. pp 14-15 Ex 3. (You may have to check Wikipedia or a dictionary to help you get the answer for #2 because perhaps you have never played 'Twenty Questions' before. So this question is not so good because it requires some cultural knowledge.) Come back to the main session and the leader please tell me your answers.
*Leader, please make sure your group doesn't go too slowly and run out of time!
Students, I am still waiting (Thursday evening) for some assignments. Please try to stay on time with these. I'm trying to be generous under the circumstances. But there is a limit.
Assignment #4 is a test of your English grammar ability. I have noticed that this is a weak point in some cases. Please do not write any introduction/results/conclusion for this assignment. This is a straight test of your ability to write the method section of your abstract.
As usual, contact me during the tutorial time 1:10 - 2:40 Friday on Zoom if you have any questions.
It's worth 10 points.
First breakout session. Choose a leader, somebody who hasn't done it before. Do page 8, Reading Skill (Choose A, B or C), A and B. Then do page 9 B. Everyone comes back to the main session and leader tells me your answers.
Second breakout session. Do, page 10, C, page 11, A and then everyone answers B, 2 with their own answer. (I will ask everyone later.) Read pages 13 and 14, and do page 14, A. Everyone comes back to the main session and leader tells me your answers, except for page 11, B, 2, because finally I will ask everyone this question.
Students, this morning we will do:
First, go into your first breakout session. Choose a leader. The leader must be somebody who hasn't done it before. Do page 6 A and B together. Then go to the top of page 8 and answer the 3 questions under 'Before you Watch.' Come back to the main session and leader tell me your answers.
Go into your second breakout session. Check that you understand what a 'syllable' is. Maybe you have to use a dictionary or other source to explain this. Then, together read page 10 Learn A and B, and then do Apply A and B. (count the syllables - in the book it says 'go online to listen...' Just ignore this.) Then come back to the main session and leader tell me your answers.
Finally, back in the breakout room, everybody prepares the End of Unit Task on page 11, A. When you have all finshed, come back and I will ask you the 6 questions in turn. Quickly answer. When you have answered, you have finished for today.
Students, good morning!
Please remember to write your names in English when you sign into our meeting.
These are the pages from your textbook that we will do in class today. You don't have to do anything before the class starts. I will guide you through this work. But if you have a connection problem, or for some reason, you can't join our Zoom meeting today, please do this in your book anyway (as much as possible).
Look at page 1. Answer #2 (Do you consider....) Write your answer on the page.
Look at pages 2 and 3. Answer p. 2 #4 (Would you...) Write your answer on the page.
I will ask some students what their answers are.
Then, I will put you into breakout session 1. Choose a leader. The leader should be somebody who hasn't done it before. In your group, read page 4 A and do C. Then do page 5, D and E. Then come back to the main session and leader tell me your answers.
Then, go back into your breakout session 2. Look at Grammar for speaking on page 8. In your group, practice the 'How often do you? questions listed just below here (Part 1). Then make one question each for me (Part 2.) Come back to the main session and everybody, not just leader, ask me your questions .
